inspiration

A single injection of air into a thin layer of liquid silicone embeds fluid delivery networks  into a sealed rubber membrane after curing.

My inventions are designed to capture a surge of energy as it passes into material – freezing a dynamic moment, to observe the rapid motions of fluids. This symmetry-breaking event shares a kind of universality class with other self-organizing structures observable across all scales (see Undergraduate Thesis). To me, the likeness to biology reveals deep congruencies in the thermodynamics of systems far from equilibrium, living and non-living. To put them to good use, and because of their semblance to biology, I employed this structure to serve the body in medical devices and energy systems. While the outcome was an attempt to improve people's lives, I was tinkering to better understand nature.
